Clary Sage Aromatherapy
“Clear Eye, Eye of Christ and See Bright’ are the popular names of Clary Sage herb for its excellent remedial properties that aid in cleansing the eyes and brightening the vision. It is antidepressant, revitalizing, aphrodisiac and helps rejuvenate the female system. Sage detoxifies, heats up the body, cleanses, balances and stimulates perspiration, especially during hot flashes.”
Clary Sage is one of the heaviest essential oils, high in sesquiterpenes that give it a long lasting aroma. It is an excellent essential oil for blending in perfumery as a base note. The aroma smells like dancing forest elves – green, deep, slightly smoky, and a frolicking celebration of all that is earthy. The aroma has been researched for its anxiety reducing possibilities. Its sclareol constituent has an estrogenic like effect that may aid in menopause and menstrual complaints.
The essential oil lends strength, both psychological and physical. While it helps reduce deep-seated tension, it remains stimulating, regenerative, and revitalizing. This is the oil chosen for treating nervousness, weakness, fear, paranoia, and depression. Clary feeds the soul and helps us get through rough times. It is recommended when pressures and stress come from outside. The oil is very relaxing. Particularly recognized as useful for people involved in creative work. It lends us the courage to do things we haven’t done in a long time. Wonderful for people in mid-life crisis.
Clary sage has been tested on both animals and humans to determine its potential benefits as an antidepressant. One study done on rats indicated that clary sage oil could be beneficial for depression by acting as an anti-stressor. Another small study with menopausal women indicated that inhaled clary sage oil reduced cortisol, the stress hormone, and produced an antidepressant-like effect.
ll said and done, clary sage remains a very fascinating essential oil. This essential oil forms a significant element of several blends and is a much desired herb in many gardens. The floral whorls of clary sage plant are so wonderful and attractive that it appears ideal that they should yield an exceptional essential oil useful for several purposes, especially in aromatherapy.
